High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
What is high Blood Pressure?
High blood pressure (Hypertension) is a condition that can lead to many health problems including Stroke, Coronary Heart Disease, Kidney or Heart Failure.
Blood pressure is measured by the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries as the heart pumps blood. If this pressure rises and stays consistently high over time, it can damage the body in many ways
Causes of High Blood Pressure
There are two forms of High Blood Pressure the most common is Primary Hypertension (also called essential hypertension). There is no one cause to this but general lifestyle factors such as Poor diet, excessive drinking/smoking or lack of exercise can increase your risk of High Blood Pressure.
The Second form of High Blood Pressure is called Secondary Hypertension which is usually linked to another condition such as Kidney Disease or blocked or narrowed arteries leading to the Heart.
How can High Blood Pressure affect Insurance?
There are a number of complications which can arise from having high Blood Pressure for example Angina or Heart Attack, Stroke, Irregular Heartbeat and Kidney Damage. If High Blood Pressure is not declared and covered on a Travel Insurance Policy any complications related to it would also not be covered.
It is always advised to declare any known Medical Conditions at the point of taking out Holiday Insurance to ensure peace of mind and guaranteed cover. If not it could prove quite costly if you find yourself in a hospital whilst abroad.
